Cambodia has a population of 13 million and its land
area is 181,035sqkms. Most Cambodians are Theravada
Buddhists of Khmer extraction, but the country also
has a substantial number of predominantly Muslim Cham,
as well as ethnic Chinese, Vietnamese and animist hill
tribes. Temperatures range from 10° to 38 °C
and there are tropical monsoons. Southwest monsoons
blow inland bringing rain from the Gulf of Thailand
and Indian Ocean from May to October. The northeast
monsoon ushers in the dry season, which lasts from November

Vietnam is the easternmost country of the Indochina
Peninsula. It is bordered by China to the north, Laos
to the northwest, and Cambodia to the southwest. Its
economic growth rate is the fastest in Southeast Asia
and, with a population of over 85 million, it is the
13th most populous country in the world. Vietnam has
an area of 331,688sqkms and its borders cover some 4,639kms.
Only 20% of Vietnam is level land and mountains and
forests account for a lot of its topography. With a
tropical monsoon climate, humidity is on average 84%.

Laos is bordered by Myanmar (Burma) and China to the
northwest, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the south,
and Thailand to the west. Some 70% of its 236,800sqkms
is made up of mountain and plateau areas. The Mekong
River forms a natural border with Thailand. Laos’
population is six million and its average temperature
is 29 degrees C. The best time to visit is between November
and March, when temperatures drop significantly.

At 514,000sqkms, Thailand is roughly the same size
as France. Its geographic regions greatly vary, with
a mountainous north, a central plain and a narrow isthmus
in the south. The climate is tropical and made up of
two monsoon seasons. There is a rainy, warm, and cloudy
southwest monsoon from May to September and a dry, cool
northeast monsoon from November to March. Some 95% of
Thailand’s population is Buddhist with Muslims
making up the rest of the country’s population

is the largest country in mainland Southeast Asia. The
country’s culture is heavily influenced by its
neighbours (Thailand, China, India, Bangladesh, Laos).
Its religion is Theravada Buddhism as well as local
animist elements. Myanmar has an area of 678,500sqkms
and a population of about 50 million. Its geography
is extremely varied and ranges from high mountains in
the north (creating a natural border with China) to
fertile plains and valleys.

Yunnan is a province in the far Southwestern corner
of the People’s Republic of China. It encompasses
394,000sqkms (152,084 square miles) and has a population
of more than 42 million people. It borders Vietnam Laos
and Burma. Yunnan has an extremely diverse topography,
ranging from the mountainous to tropical rainforests.
More than anything, Yunnan is known for its wildlife
and for having the greatest amount of plant species
in China.
